Glidden, merchant of Newcastle, Maine, and Boston, Mass., involved in shipping China trade goods from San Francisco to Boston, and other shipping ventures in the southern U.S., Valparaiso (Chile), and Manila. Includes daybook, 1828-37, kept at various ports; bill book for the firm Glidden and Williams of Boston, 1865-66, and waste book, 1878-80 in the same volume; trial balances, 1853-58; cashbooks, 1882-98; waste book, 1886-93; records of a contract between Glidden and Williams and others for business purposes, 1866-77; and checkbooks. Also, letterbook of John M. Glidden and Julian Allen, merchants in Savannah, Ga; and miscellaneous papers of John M. and Joseph Warren Glidden in Newcastle, Maine.
